The Bamfords

Hurunui Hills farm has been in the Bamford family for five generations.

Currently it is worked by Terry and Maria Bamford, along with their son Scotty Bamford – who is your official MyKiwiSheep shepherd.

Scotty’s younger brother Mark is also actively involved. And one year-old Matai Bamford (pictured) is quickly learning the ropes!

Location

The farm is located in North Canterbury, on New Zealand’s South Island.

If you’ve never been to this part of the world, make sure you put it on your bucket list.

There’s nothing on earth like the South Island!

Animals

Along with around 2,500 merino sheep, the farm is home to a huge range of animals – including wild fauna – all of which you’ll get to meet!

The most popular players on the Hurunui team are always the working dogs. The Bamfords have four New Zealand sheepdogs that are an active part of running the farm. They also have one retired huntaway (a sheepdog bred for their deep bark), called Kate. This sweet old lady is often tagging along with Scotty, so you’re bound to see plenty of her!

Landscape

Hurunui Hills has an ever-changing landscape, and some of the most incredible views to New Zealand’s famed Southern Alps. It experiences the full force of all four seasons – from scorching summers to snow-capped winters – something you’ll experience yourself if you become part of the MySheep family.

If you’re ever in this neck-of-the-woods make sure you come and say g’day to the Bamfords, share a cup of tea and a scone, and get a taste of real New Zealand farming.
